Picky Eden: Genesis I

Picky Eden: Genesis I explores the recursive image-making pipeline in commercial visuals, using apple as the data token. I use a custom AI workflow, in which the model is trained on commodity apple images collected from grocery and markets' websites (Whole Foods, Instacart, etc), and generate a morphing AI apple sequence that no longer signifies any single specific apple but a generality of "appleness". I 3D print a couple apples and spray-painted a series of real apples in a gradual progression, all in the same grey as the 3D printed ones.

Genesis I has been exhibited at the group show Matsuri with (New York).

I made this "documenta-reel" as a record of the project. It includes my apple purchase in a grocery scanned in 3D, and a street performance in Noho, New York City where I staged spray painting apples using an empty can and a speaker for the spray sound effect.
