Picky Eden: Genesis II

noprojection_wall.jpg

Picky Eden: Genesis II is the second half of the Picky Eden series. While the first half of the project, Genesis I, explores the recursive image-making pipeline in commercial visuals, Genesis II takes one step further and reinterprets the classic biblical story, the Garden of Eden, to investigate the relations and formations of ideas, images and concepts.

I reimagine the classic biblical story, the Garden of Eden, using AI, 3D animation, 3D print, and projection mapping. The Adam and Eve avatars are built from my own facial 3D scan. Neither of the avatar is dazzled by the forbidden fruit offered by the serpent, instead they just remain indecisive and confused.  I use a custom-trained AI model trained on historic depictions of forbidden fruit from oil paintings (from public resources like National Gallery of Art, The Met, Cranach Digital Archive etc)  and create a morphing fruit sequence which is projected onto the 3D printed apple on the wall above Adam’s head. Unlike in the original biblical story, the forbidden fruits, in my reimagination, are no longer tempting, mystical, or desirable. Instead, they have become overabundant, repetitive and left unpicked.
